The wooden box is decorated with intricate geometric parquetry inlay, a style characteristic of Tunbridge Ware. The exterior is composed of a dark-toned wood featuring a central diamond motif on the hinged lid, framed by concentric bands of repeating patterns. The interior is finished in a lighter, natural-toned wood and exhibits surface wear and marking consistent with age. It is fitted with brass hinges and an internal lock mechanism.
The cast metal inkwell is crafted from brass with an ornate, three-lobed base featuring embossed scrolling foliate decoration. The domed lid follows this decorative scheme. The underside of the base is marked with the embossed inscription MOD BREVET, indicating a French patented model.
