A decorative ceramic dish or bowl designed in the form of a stylized green leaf with molded veining. Three anthropomorphic frogs are perched along the rear rim, arranged in the traditional Three Wise Monkeys poses of Hear No Evil, See No Evil, and Speak No Evil. The piece is finished in a high-gloss polychrome glaze. The leaf is a deep forest green, while the frogs are decorated in variegated olive and ochre tones with a mottled cream and grey textured glaze applied to their underbellies. The eyes are picked out in black and white glaze. The underside of the piece is unglazed, showing a light buff-coloured ceramic body, and features two circular ventilation holes. There are no visible maker’s marks, factory stamps, or model numbers.
