A cold-cast bronze sculpture by Scott Stearman (American, born 1949) depicting the 18th-century Methodist cleric John Wesley. The figure is portrayed as a circuit rider, seated on a walking horse and reading a book. He is dressed in period-accurate attire, including a long frock coat, breeches, and riding boots. The sculpture is set upon an integral, moulded oval base featuring a nameplate inscribed John Wesley. The top of the base is incised with the artist signature Scott Stearman and dated 1989. The underside of the base retains an original gold foil label for Scott Stearman Sculpture, Woodland Park, Colorado, with care instructions. Accompanying the sculpture is a tall wooden pedestal in an Arts and Crafts style, featuring three tapered legs, a circular top, and a triangular mid-shelf. Both the top and the shelf are finished with a carved interlaced floral border.
