Monday 11th May - Antiques, Jewellery, Militaria, Coins, Comics Vinyl, Toys, Ceramics, Collectables
This collection comprises approximately 80 vintage postcards documenting American travel and regional iconography from the early 20th century through to the mid-1960s. The lot features a variety of printing methods, including early black and white views, hand-coloured lithographs, 1930s-40s “linen” style cards, and later photo-chromes. Notable subjects include New York City landmarks such as the Chrysler Building at night and the Empire State Building skyline, alongside a street scene of Mulberry Street. Other highlights include a Chicago “Large Letter” greetings card, Denver’s Civic Centre, and “Portals of the Past” in San Francisco’s Golden Gate Park. A series of Salt Lake City views includes Temple Square and the Tabernacle; one specific card published by Frank H. Leib (No. 946) is of particular interest, bearing a handwritten ink inscription on the front: “your Brother in the cause of truth J H Gilbert.” The collection also contains a dramatic monochrome scene titled “A Storm on Lake Okoboji, Iowa.” The cards are presented in a modern, multi-page plastic-sleeve album. Dimensions: Cards approximately 140mm x 90mm.
