A two individual British First World War campaign medals comprising a British War Medal and a Victory Medal. The British War Medal 1914-1918 is struck in silver and features the bareheaded effigy of King George V on the obverse with the inscription GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:. The reverse depicts St George on horseback trampling the Prussian eagle shield and a skull and crossbones, with the dates 1914 and 1918 visible in the fields. The rim is officially impressed 189959 GNR H. ACKROYD R.A., identifying the recipient as a Gunner in the Royal Artillery. The Victory Medal 1914-1919 is struck in bronze and features the winged figure of Victory on the obverse. The reverse bears a laurel wreath surrounding the central inscription THE GREAT WAR FOR CIVILISATION 1914-1919. The rim is officially impressed 136087 SPR J.I. CORBETT R.E., identifying the recipient as a Sapper in the Royal Engineers. Both medals are accompanied by their respective ribbons and handwritten research notes. These items are individual awards to different recipients and do not form a matching pair.
