This maritime oil lantern was manufactured by Nippon Sento Co. Ltd. in September 1972. It is constructed from brass and copper-toned metal and features a prominent cylindrical red glass lens. The design is a Not Under Command light, specifically identified on the riveted identification plate as model No. 3 with type approval number 2361 and manufacture number B 4806. The upper section of the lamp includes a wire bail handle and a ventilated cap. A secondary brass instruction plate is affixed to the base, providing directions in both Japanese and English for the use of kerosene and the proper trimming of the wick to achieve a desirable flame shape. The base is also equipped with a sliding adjustment lever marked with arrows and the designations BREEZE and GALE for airflow control in varied weather conditions. An internal glass chimney is present within the red lens assembly.
