Buyer's Premium:

This group comprises graduated hand-carved hardwood elephant figurines in various sizes and styles. A majority of the figures are rendered in a medium-toned wood, such as teak or rosewood, featuring deep incised linear detailing to simulate the texture of hide. These figures are finished with small, white bead-set eyes. The largest elephant in the collection includes a single inset tusk carved from a pale material, likely bone or a synthetic alternative. One figurine is distinct from the others, being carved from a darker, denser hardwood, possibly ebony, with a smooth, polished finish and larger ears. These items are characteristic of mid-to-late 20th-century artisanal work produced in South Asia or East Africa for the souvenir and export markets. No maker’s marks, signatures, or factory stamps are visible on the exterior surfaces of the pieces.
