Buyer's Premium:

A 1994 commemorative pocket lighter set manufactured by the Zippo Manufacturing Company of Bradford, Pennsylvania, produced to mark the 50th anniversary of the Allied landings in Normandy. The set comprises a Zippo lighter with a black crackle finish, a textured coating originally adopted during the Second World War for its non-reflective properties. The front of the lighter is embellished with a brass and enamel applique medallion featuring the insignia of the Supreme Headquarters Allied Expeditionary Force (SHAEF), depicting a flaming sword on a black shield beneath a rainbow. The medallion is inscribed with the text D-DAY NORMANDY and 50 YEARS 1944-1994. The lighter is housed in its original circular gold-toned presentation tin. The exterior lid is printed with a coordinating SHAEF shield design and the words LIMITED EDITION. The interior of the lid features a printed reproduction of General Dwight D. Eisenhower’s Order of the Day message to the Allied Expeditionary Force, dated June 6, 1944, including his facsimile signature. The lighter sits within a red felt-lined recess alongside the original Zippo paper instruction insert.
