This folio-sized work is an extensive pictorial history of English antiquities, edited and published by Charles Knight. The volume contains both Volume I and Volume II bound together. The binding is in a half-leather style featuring a dark leather spine and corners over marbled paper-covered boards. The spine includes a black leather title label with the title Old England stamped in gilt. The work is profusely illustrated with numerous black-and-white wood engravings throughout the text and contains several full-page colour plates, including the Interior of the Temple Church and Christ Church Hall Oxford. The title page for Volume I is dated 1845, and a decorative colour title page is present dated 1844. A handwritten ink ownership inscription on the title page reads: Please take care of this book. F.
