A collection of maritime and industrial history ephemera and artwork centered on North Shields and the River Tyne. The primary item is Archive Teaching Unit No. 5, titled The Tyne 1800-1850: An archive teaching unit for a study of life and work on a great northern river, compiled by M. R. Savage and A. G. Thompson, published in 1970 by the University of Newcastle upon Tyne Department of Education (SBN 900565 16 0). The blue card folder contains a handbook, introduction booklet, and various facsimile historical documents. Also included are several dialect poetry booklets by Fred Reed, including Northumbrian Miscellany (subtitled 80 Dialect Poems) and The Sense On’t, alongside a volume titled Shipyard Muddling. Framed materials consist of a monochrome historical photograph of a harbour scene with sailing vessels and a colour lithograph of a narrow street leading to a quay, signed Albert. H. Herbert. and dated 1971. Large-format items include a paper poster titled North Shields Fish Quay and Fishing Industry featuring a monochrome photograph of a fisherman, and a large mounted sepia photograph of fishing boats at low tide, with the vessel Ella bearing registration FY4. The lot is completed by a loose-leaf portfolio from a 1987 exhibition on the North Shields Fish Quay, including photographs by Tony Patterson.
