Lot 397: A Pair of Stanley Bailey No. 4 and No. 4 1/2 Bench Planes with Original Boxes

This lot comprises two vintage Stanley Bailey pattern hand planes manufactured in Sheffield, England. The first is a No. 4 smoothing plane marked Stanley Tools Limited. The second is a No. 4 1/2 heavy smoothing plane marked Stanley Works (G.B.) Ltd. Both planes feature cast iron bodies with a black japanned finish, steel blades, and chipbreakers. The totes and knobs are constructed from stained hardwood, likely beech. Both items include their original orange and black cardboard packaging. The lever caps for both planes display the Stanley name embossed against a recessed orange-red background. The word Bailey is cast into the toe of each plane body. Included with the planes is a black and yellow instructional pamphlet titled hints on using a plane. The No. 4 box end is marked with the model number 4 and dimensions 9 3/4 x 2in (245 x 50mm). The No. 4 1/2 box end is marked with the model number 4 1/2.
