A 9 carat gold and enamel prize medal or watch fob awarded by the Blackpool Cycle Club. The obverse features a central shield in polychrome enamel based on the Blackpool coat of arms, depicting a fleur-de-lis, martlet, and lion rampant above a flying seagull. This is framed by blue enamel scrolls inscribed BLACKPOOL CYCLE CLUB. The medal is finished with an ornate scrolled top and a suspension loop. The reverse is finely engraved with the recipient details: 1926, CLUB 50, 1st HANDICAP, H. SHAW., 2 – 46 – 0, documenting a 50-mile time trial achievement.
The reverse bears the maker’s mark W.H.H for William Hair Haseler of Birmingham. Hallmarks include a 9 and .375 for 9 carat gold fineness, an anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office, and a lowercase b date letter for 1926. The item is presented in its original black leatherette retail box, the interior lid gilt-printed for Wm PEARSALL, Antique Dealer, Goldsmith & Jeweller, 9, New St, BIRMINGHAM.
