A late 19th or early 20th-century earthenware jardiniere of deep rectangular form with rounded corners, produced by Maling Pottery in Newcastle upon Tyne. The piece is decorated internally and externally with an underglaze blue transfer-printed Chinoiserie landscape pattern. The design incorporates classic motifs including multi-storey pagodas, pavilions, a bridge, willow-style trees, and rocky outcrops under a cloudy sky. The base features an underglaze blue printed mark consisting of the name MALING in an arch above a three-towered castle, with the word NEWCASTLE below.
