This lot comprises a group of vintage advertising spirit jugs and a novelty metal bottle opener. Included are four glazed earthenware jugs produced for various Scotch whisky and cognac brands. A tall, rectangular white glazed jug for Mackinlay’s Old Scotch Whisky features transfer-printed text and a heraldic crest depicting a red shield with a yellow stag. The base of this jug bears a circular backstamp for Burleigh Ware, manufactured for Hancock Corfield & Waller Ltd, Mitcham. A cream-glazed rectangular jug for William Grant’s Family Reserve Finest Scotch Whisky depicts a portrait of William Grant in traditional Highland dress. A square, tapering dark blue glazed jug promotes Whyte and Mackay Scotch Whisky with gold-bordered transfer-printed labels. A bulbous, rounded dark blue jug for Martell Cognac Brandy has a white glazed interior and handle, and is also marked with the Hancock Corfield & Waller Ltd and Burleigh Ware circular stamp to the base. The novelty bottle opener is cast in polished white metal in the form of a horse’s leg ending in a hoof.
