This lot comprises two early 19th-century earthenware jugs, attributed to the Sunderland or Newcastle regions of Northern England, featuring characteristic pink lustre decoration. Each vessel is crafted from pearlware and decorated with transfer-printed maritime and sentimental themes. The first jug depicts a hand-coloured scene of a sailor parting from his family, titled Sailors Tear, with the reverse bearing the full text of the poem The Sailor’s Tear. It features a floral transfer-printed border to the interior and exterior rim with pink lustre banding. The second, smaller jug displays a transfer-printed and hand-tinted three-masted sailing ship on one side, while the reverse features a commemorative verse within a floral wreath beginning Remember me, When this you see. Both jugs are of globular form with loop handles and pinched pouring spouts, finished with splash and banded pink lustre highlights. No maker marks are visible on the bases.
