Victor Noble Rainbird (British, 1888-1936). A tonalist watercolour on paper titled Whispering Waves. The composition depicts a solitary female figure in traditional coastal dress, including a white cap and clogs, standing on a shore against a background of rolling surf and a muted, overcast sky. The work is executed in a subdued palette of browns, ochres, and greys, typical of the artist’s atmospheric style. The painting is signed in block letters to the lower left VICTOR·NOBLE·RAINBIRD/ and titled to the lower right ‘WHISPERING·WAVES’. It is presented in a double mount with an off-white outer border and a narrow grey-blue inner border, housed within a stepped gilt wood frame.
