A watercolour and bodycolour painting on paper by the North East artist Wilson Hepple, dated 1917. The scene depicts a rural landscape featuring a farmhand mounted on a grey horse, leading a bay horse across a shallow woodland ford. The composition is rendered with fine brushwork, capturing an atmospheric light across the water and surrounding trees. The work is signed and dated in the lower left corner WILSON HEPPLE 1917. It is presented in its original ornate gilt wood and composition frame, which features a repeating geometric wave pattern. The verso retains a well-preserved trade label for R. Scupham & Sons, Ltd., picture framers and dealers of 35 Linthorpe Road and 10 to 18 Garden St., Middlesbrough.
