An antique set of wooden picture blocks, also known as puzzle cubes, dating from the late nineteenth or early twentieth century. The set comprises multiple wooden cubes, each side applied with a segment of a lithographed paper illustration. When correctly oriented, the cubes form six complete scenes. The visible guide scenes depict children in Victorian-era attire: one shows a boy in a sailor suit sitting beside a girl with a toy sailboat in a parkland setting; the second shows two girls in a garden interacting with a dog and a butterfly. The blocks are contained within an original softwood box featuring a sliding lid and dovetailed construction. Two guide illustrations mounted on wooden panels are included to assist in the assembly of the puzzles. No manufacturer markings are visible on the blocks or the box.
