A collection of walking sticks and canes of various designs and materials. The assortment includes a rustic blackthorn walking stick with an integral natural knob handle and heavily textured knotted shaft; a bamboo walking cane featuring a polished L-shaped fruitwood handle and a brass ferrule; an ebonised walking stick with a translucent horn crook-shaped handle and an embossed sterling silver collar decorated with foliate scrollwork, bearing hallmarks for Birmingham, 1894, and the maker’s mark JH for John Howell; a walking stick with a tapered dark wood shaft and an embossed silver-toned metal cap featuring scrolling foliate motifs; a carved hardwood system cane, the handle formed as a pipe bowl with an interior cavity, set upon a shaft with a repetitive thorny or knotted carved texture; and a figural walking stick with a handle carved in the shape of a duck’s head from a translucent material, possibly horn or an early synthetic, on a tapered dark wood shaft.
