This lot comprises an assortment of malacological specimens presented in two vintage cardboard boxes. The yellow box contains several larger bivalve specimens, including examples with jagged margins characteristic of the Tridacninae family and various oyster species. Some valves are preserved as matching pairs, held together with perished rubber bands. A singular, large, weathered white shell is also included. The tan box holds a large quantity of smaller gastropod shells, consisting of mottled brown spindle-shaped shells and numerous smooth, off-white shells, likely Ring Cowries (Monetaria annulus). A handwritten label in blue ink is included, stating: Shells, Shells from Nimrod, from [illegible] 1914. The reference to Nimrod potentially relates to the vessel used during Shackletons 1907-1909 Antarctic expedition, which was subsequently used as a merchant ship. The specimens are in an unpolished, natural state.
