This lot features an assortment of international ethnographic and folk art objects. Representing South American traditions are two Peruvian mates burilados, or etched gourds. These dried gourds feature intricate pyrographed scenes: one depicting a horse-drawn carriage with multiple figures, and the second showing a bird perched on a branch beside its nest. The iconography on these items typically celebrates rural Andean life and natural history. From the African continent are three dark-stained or ebonised wood carvings: a bust with a distinctive tiered hairstyle, a seated female figure, and a slender decorative spear or letter opener. Australian Aboriginal style items include two wooden boomerangs, with the larger example featuring incised animal motifs including kangaroos. The collection also includes two oval wooden plaques with pyrography illustrations showing European rural life, specifically a shepherd with his flock and a woman operating a spinning wheel. Rounding out the group are three polished mineral eggs, including examples of banded onyx and veined marble, held in a rustic burr wood bowl and presented in a square wicker basket. Prospective buyers should be aware of international regulations regarding the export and trade of ethnographic materials.
