A Victorian sterling silver sugar sifter spoon featuring an ornate fluted shell-shaped bowl with decorative pierced openwork. The stem and handle are embellished with embossed foliate, scroll, and shell motifs, leading to a terminal with a vacant circular cartouche. The reverse of the stem bears a complete set of Sheffield hallmarks: a crown assay mark, a lion passant standard mark for .925 sterling silver, a duty mark depicting the profile of Queen Victoria, and a capital letter M date mark for the year 1855. The maker mark RM over EH within a quatrefoil identifies the piece as the work of Richard Martin and Ebenezer Hall of Martin, Hall and Co.
