A large American sterling silver server manufactured by the Mauser Manufacturing Co. of New York, dating from the late 19th or early 20th century. The piece is designed in the ornate Rococo Revival style and was likely intended for use as a tomato, berry, or pastry server. The shallow, scalloped bowl features a broad rim decorated with embossed foliate scrolls and shell motifs. The interior of the bowl is embellished with pierced decoration consisting of five-pointed star apertures and scrolled cut-outs. The tapered handle terminates in a shaped end with scrolled edges and a central raised scroll motif. On the reverse of the handle, the item is stamped with the word STERLING and the maker’s pictorial mark consisting of two birds with spread wings facing inward towards a central shield containing the letter M.
