This watercolour on paper by the self-taught British landscape artist Edwin Grieg Hall depicts a winter scene of Ben Eighe in Kinlochewe, Scotland. The representational composition features a snow-clad mountain peak set against a grey sky, overlooking a cluster of pine trees and a small stone cabin. The foreground is covered in snow with patches of dormant scrub and rocks. The work is signed E. GRIEG HALL in the lower left corner. The verso of the backing board contains a handwritten inscription in black ink stating: Ben Eighe, Kinlochewe. / early Decembe ’77. / 10.30 a.m. / E. G. Hall. The painting is presented in a gilt-wood frame with a dark navy mount and a gold-toned inner slip. Accompanying the work is a biographical note detailing the artist’s career, including his gallery in Grasmere and his work in the Lake District and Scottish Highlands.
