Buyer's Premium:

This late 19th or early 20th-century oil painting on board is a portrait of a young boy, executed after the famous composition The Torn Hat by Thomas Sully. The subject is depicted in a three-quarter view, looking towards the right of the frame. He wears a wide-brimmed grey hat and a textured cream-coloured tunic with a prominent broad collar, set against a dark umber background. The work features visible and textured brushwork, with impasto highlights applied to the garment and facial features, which is characteristic of the British School of this period. The painting is presented in a period-appropriate wide, dark-stained oak frame with a visible wood grain and a gilded inner slip. No signature or date is visible on the support.
