An Edwardian oak coal purdonium or scuttle cabinet of upright rectangular form. The cabinet features a fall-front door flanked by vertical reeded pilasters. The central recessed panel is decorated with an inlaid geometric checkerboard stringing border in contrasting light and dark woods. The door is fitted with a decorative patinated metal drop handle. The interior contains a removable sheet metal liner with a top wire handle. Housed in a dedicated metal bracket on the rear of the cabinet is a matching metal coal shovel with a turned oak handle.
