A collection of early to mid-20th-century glass apothecary or chemist bottles, comprising clear glass and emerald green glass examples, all featuring ground glass stoppers. The clear glass bottles include a rectangular-shouldered bottle with a faceted glass stopper labelled BOROGLYC. IN GLYCER 1 IN 2 in gold-toned lettering, a taller square-shouldered bottle with a flat-top glass stopper labelled SOD. PHOSPH. PULV. in black lettering, and a slender rectangular bottle with a faceted glass stopper labelled TR. ZINGIB.
The emerald green glass bottles feature vertical ribbing on the sides, a characteristic design used to identify hazardous or poisonous contents by touch in low light. These include a square-profile bottle labelled COLLOD. FLEX. and a taller square-profile bottle labelled TR. SCILLAE B.P. ’32, referring to the 1932 edition of the British Pharmacopoeia. A further unlabelled emerald green bottle is a short, square-profile vessel with vertical fluting on all sides and a piece of twine remaining around the neck. All bottles are fitted with ground glass stoppers of faceted or flat-topped form.
