A mid-20th-century industrial thermograph manufactured by Casella London. The instrument is housed in a heavy-duty cast metal casing with a cream-coloured finish and a chrome-plated arched carrying handle. To the right side is an open-work metal cage protecting the sensing mechanism, which consists of a bimetallic coil linked to a mechanical recording pen. The pen is positioned against a vertical metal recording drum. The drum is clockwork-driven and was produced by Gluck Barograph and Recorder Co. Ltd., featuring markings for 7D and R8D recording cycles alongside a winding arbor on the top. The front of the main housing contains a glass viewing window for monitoring the recording progress. Two metal plates are riveted to the front, inscribed CASELLA LONDON and MADE IN ENGLAND, B.S. 3231., 5170, 100 F. The top of the casing carries two adhesive labels reading S/TYNE and ENERGY MARKETING. A small blue plastic bottle of specialised recording ink is held within the frame.
