A mid-century studio pottery stoneware ashtray of substantial rectangular form with a Brutalist aesthetic. The exterior and rim are finished in a thick, heavily textured matte glaze of mottled blue and teal tones. The interior well features a contrasting, high-gloss pooling glaze in dark amber and brown with crystalline fat lava characteristics. The design incorporates three deep cigarette or cigar rests at one end and three circular indentations at the opposite end, possibly for matches or pipe tools. The underside features a hand-incised mark consisting of a stylized, cursive S followed by the Roman numeral II. While the style and glaze are reminiscent of Italian imports by Rosenthal Netter or the Rimini Blue series by Bitossi, the piece bears a distinct studio mark.
