A Victorian sterling silver sauce or cream ladle decorated in the Queens pattern. This ornate design is a variation of the traditional Kings pattern, characterised by shell motifs at the terminal and stem, accented with scrolling foliage. The reverse of the bowl features a shell-form heel. The interior of the bowl shows evidence of original gilding which has thinned over time. The reverse of the stem bears a complete set of British hallmarks, including the maker mark CH in conjoined circular punches for Charles Holland, the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard head assay office mark for London and the Queen Victoria duty mark.
