An antique brass beam balance scale manufactured by G. Stevens and Son of London. The base of the stand is stamped with an oval maker’s mark reading G. STEVENS & SON 337 GOSWELL RD. E.C.1. The horizontal equal-arm beam is engraved with the weighing capacity, reading TO WEIGH 50 OZ across the two arms. The instrument is constructed from brass and features a central pillar mounted on a curved tripod base. This pillar supports the beam from which two circular brass pans are suspended by brass chains. The stand incorporates a hand-operated lever mechanism designed to raise the beam into its weighing position. The lot includes a set of six cylindrical brass weights of graduated sizes, each featuring a rounded knob handle. The largest weight is marked 10 OZ and the second largest is marked 5 OZ.
