A 1930s advertising ceramic matchbox holder and ashtray produced for Guinness by Mintons Ltd. The piece consists of a central earthenware barrel finished with a wood-grain effect glaze and black bands, featuring the Guinness name in white serif lettering. The top of the barrel contains a rectangular slot designed to hold a matchbox upright and a circular striking surface. This central element is mounted to a white glazed circular ashtray base with two cigarette rests. The rim of the ashtray is printed with the iconic advertising slogan Guinness Is Good For You in alternating red and black lettering. The underside features the printed maker mark Produced in Great Britain by Mintons Ltd. Stoke-on-Trent, the registered design number 778941, and the reference GA/A/254. Additional markings include a small red hand-painted letter c and two black dashes near the central vent hole.
