An Olivetti M40 manual standard desktop typewriter, specifically configured for bookkeeping and ledger work. The machine features an extra-wide carriage and a cast metal body finished in black wrinkle paint. The keyboard consists of four rows in a standard QWERTY layout with glass-topped keys and metal rims. An additional fifth row of keys is dedicated to pre-decimal British currency denominations, including 1d, 10d, 1/-, 10/-, £1, £10, £100, and £1000. The paper table is marked with the olivetti logo in lowercase script. A front-mounted nameplate is inscribed ING. C. OLIVETTI & C., S.p.A. • IVREA – ITALIA and MADE IN ITALY.
