A vintage Waterman’s Ideal lever-filler fountain pen crafted from red ripple ebonite, dating to the late 1920s. The pen features a cylindrical profile with a vibrant red and black mottled pattern throughout the cap and barrel. The side-lever filling system is activated by a gold-tone lever tab embossed with the Waterman globe logo and the word IDEAL. The cap is finished with a wide 9 carat gold band bearing the maker’s mark F.D.W for Frank D. Waterman. This band carries a full set of British hallmarks including a crown, the fineness mark 375, an anchor for the Birmingham Assay Office, and the date letter d corresponding to circa 1928. This is a clipless model as manufactured. The gold nib is inscribed WATERMAN’S IDEAL NEW YORK and is distinguished by a heart-shaped breather hole.
