A WWII-era No. 1250 military machete and original leather scabbard. The machete was manufactured by Collins and Co. of Hartford, Connecticut. The heavy carbon steel blade is single-edged and broadens toward a convex tip. It features a full tang construction with handle scales made of a black synthetic material, likely Bakelite, secured by three brass rivets. The flared pommel includes a circular lanyard hole. Stamped on the ricasso is the Legitimus crown over an arm holding a hammer logo, above the text LEGITIMUS, COLLINS & CO, MADE IN USA, NO 1250, and dated 1940. The accompanying heavy-duty dark brown leather scabbard features stitched and riveted seams, a belt loop, and a retention strap with a metal stud fastener. The reverse of the scabbard is stamped F.S.D. CO. with the date 1944 and a British broad arrow (pheon) mark, indicating acceptance or use by British or Commonwealth forces, likely through a Lend-Lease contract.
