A Second World War period German Luftwaffe enlisted man’s (EM) or non-commissioned officer’s (NCO) breast eagle. The insignia is machine-embroidered in grey thread on a dark blue-black wool backing. The design depicts the national emblem (Hoheitsabzeichen) as a flying eagle with swept-back wings clutching a swastika in its talons. The patch has been cut from a uniform, leaving an irregular border of the base fabric. The reverse side displays the machine-embroidery stitch patterns.
