A large Victorian apothecary or druggist’s shop rounds bottle manufactured from heavy, near-opaque dark amber glass, traditionally termed black glass. The vessel features a cylindrical body with sloping shoulders, a short neck, and a hand-finished thick rounded rim. Construction details indicate hand-blown production, including a rough pontil scar and textured surface to the base, along with visible air bubbles and inclusions within the glass matrix. Centred on the body is an original paper label with a tan ground and dark border, bearing the printed pharmaceutical abbreviation R:OPII. This inscription refers to Tinctura Opii or Tincture of Opium, with the R: prefix representing the Latin Recipe. The bottle retains a recessed and heavily degraded cork closure.
