An Antique Black Forest Carved Walnut Cave à Liqueur, dating to the late 19th century. The piece is crafted from a warm-toned hardwood and features a complex architectural form with a central hinged lid, flanked by a group of carved birds of prey at the corners. The front facade displays deep relief carvings of two hunting dogs, surmounted by a scrolled crest with crossed rifles, a rooster, and a banner inscribed with “DAE DONS L’OVIE”. The side panels feature openwork and relief floral motifs, while the reverse shows carved game birds beneath another rooster crest. A brass plaque on an interior door is marked “TH. MEIJERS ROTTERDAM V/D STEEGEN” (repeated upside down). A yellow auction sticker visible on one side bears the number “903”. The item exhibits a rich, aged patina.
Condition report:
The item is in good antique condition, consistent with age and use. There is visible dust accumulation in the deep carvings. No obvious major damage or repairs are noted. The aged patina is well-preserved.
