A Protector Lamp & Lighting Co. Ltd. Eccles Type SL miner’s safety lamp, constructed from brass with darker metal components, possibly steel or iron, and a glass enclosure. A prominent circular brass plaque on the body is embossed with “THE PROTECTOR LAMP & LIGHTING CO. LTD. TYPE SL MINISTRY OF POWER SAFETY LAMPS APPROVAL No. D/120 MAKERS ECCLES.” The base features an embossed “61” on what appears to be a locking mechanism, and the underside reveals a central cross-shaped key fitting. Inside the glass, a wick and burner assembly are visible, along with faint etched or stenciled text on the glass itself, including “BRITISH” and “WOLF.” The lamp displays a robust, utilitarian industrial style.
