A group of three glazed ceramic character jugs, mid-20th century, primarily depicting British political and military figures.
The largest jug, a full-figure piece, portrays Winston Churchill in a bowler hat holding a bottle and cane. It is marked ‘ROYAL DOULTON MADE IN ENGLAND’ with a crown logo, and ‘WINSTON CHURCHILL’ on its base.
A smaller bust-form jug depicts Winston Churchill with a cigar and a naval cap. It is marked ‘BURLEIGH MADE IN ENGLAND’ and bears the inscription ‘CHURCHILL 1940-1965,’ alongside the phrase ‘WE SHALL DEFEND EVERY VILLAGE EVERY TOWN AND.’
The third jug is a bust depicting a general in a black beret. It has no visible manufacturer’s mark but is stylistically congruent with the others.
