Auction 8th December - Antiques, Jewellery, Militaria, Coins, Vinyl, Toys, Ceramics, Collectables & More
A cased set of six Art Deco sterling silver coffee spoons, bearing hallmarks for Birmingham. Each spoon features a silver-toned metal bowl and handle, terminating in a black, spherical finial, likely ebony or bakelite. Hallmarks visible on one spoon include a lion passant, a sovereign’s head, a town mark (likely Birmingham), a date letter (potentially ‘D’), and a maker’s mark. The set is presented in a dark brown, possibly crocodile-skin patterned leatherette box, lined with cream fabric and black velvet. The interior lid bears the inscription ‘WATCHMAKERS TO THE ADMIRALTY / ESTD 1870. / GRANT & SON. / GOLDSMITHS & DIAMOND MERCHANTS, / NORTH SHIELDS. / SOUTH SHIELDS, JARROW-ON-TYNE, / CARLISLE.’, indicating a British retailer established in 1870.
