This fine gres porcelain figurine, titled Away to School (Camino del Colegio), is a distinguished example of the artistry produced by the renowned Spanish manufacturer Lladro. The piece depicts a charming scene of two children dressed for inclement weather; a young boy in a textured blue hooded duffle coat and cap holding a black umbrella, accompanied by a girl in a pale yellow coat and hat with a patterned blue scarf, carrying a small brown satchel. Unlike the traditional high-gloss finish, this sculpture features the matte gres finish, which provides a sophisticated, earthy colour palette and a distinct tactile quality. The underside is clearly marked with the blue Lladro tulip logo, Hand Made in Spain, © DAISA 1990, and the incised model number 2242, alongside various potter’s symbols. This model was designed by Francisco Polope and captures the evocative, nostalgic style characterised by the studio’s late 20th-century output. Height: Approximately 25 cm (10 inches).
