A complete Second World War campaign group of three awarded for service in the British Armed Forces between 1939 and 1945. The group consists of the 1939-1945 Star, the Defence Medal, and the War Medal 1939-1945. As is standard for British issues of this period, the medals are unnamed. The 1939-1945 Star is a bronze six-pointed star featuring the Royal Cypher of King George VI. The Defence Medal and War Medal are struck in cupro-nickel, featuring the effigy of the King to the obverse. This lot is distinguished by the inclusion of the original Ministry of Defence (Armed Forces) transmission slip, which bears the printed compliments of the Under-Secretary of State for Defence and the Defence Council. Also included is a matching three-medal ribbon bar for uniform wear and a spare length of ribbon for the 1939-1945 Star. This set represents a quintessential example of the awards sent to veterans in the immediate post-war period.
