A fine quality Royal Air Force pilot’s wings sweetheart brooch dating from the Second World War period. The brooch is crafted from 9 carat yellow gold and features a central RAF monogram within a laurel wreath, surmounted by a King’s (Tudor) Crown and flanked by detailed outspread feathered wings. The reverse is clearly stamped with the maker’s mark TLM for Thomas Lynton Mott, a renowned Birmingham-based manufacturer of high-quality military jewellery. It is also stamped 9ct to denote gold purity. These items were traditionally purchased by servicemen as sentimental gifts for wives, mothers, or girlfriends. The use of the Tudor Crown specifically identifies this as a pre-1953 piece, making it a definitive example of wartime sweetheart jewellery.
