A vintage black silk plush top hat, retailed by Austin Reed of Regent Street and manufactured by Christy’s London. The hat features a solid black silk plush exterior with a matching grosgrain ribbon band. The interior is finished with a white silk-lined crown bearing the Austin Reed logo and a tan leather sweatband stamped with the Christy’s London crest and English Manufacture. This lot boasts significant industrial provenance, with the sweatband hand-inscribed R.W. MANN, belonging to Robert W. Mann O.B.E., the former Managing Director and Chairman of Victor Products (Wallsend) Ltd. The lot is accompanied by a reinforced cardboard hat box in a grey-green finish, a Victor 1929-1979 50th-anniversary corporate history booklet with a metallic gold cover, and a commemorative bronze-toned medallion in a protective case, the reverse depicting a mine headframe and offshore oil platform.
