An antique Neapolitan style bowl-back mandolin of Italian manufacture. The interior features a visible paper label printed “FABBRICANTE / DI / STRUMENTI ARMONICI / NAPOLI”, though the primary maker’s name is partially obscured and the handwritten year is illegible. The instrument is constructed with a spruce soundboard and a multi-ribbed bowl back, likely of rosewood or mahogany, featuring light wood stringing and purfling. It is embellished with a decorative pearloid/mother-of-pearl style rosette and a tortoiseshell-effect celluloid pickguard. The dark hardwood fretboard is set with mother-of-pearl style dot inlays. The slotted headstock retains its original open-gear brass tuners. While web research suggests similarities to Stella models, the internal label confirms a Neapolitan origin.
