A pair of vintage novelty souvenir display cans produced by the brand SUN in Japan. These mid-century collectibles are constructed with clear plastic cylindrical sides and tin-plated metal lids, designed to house a preserved oyster within a preserving liquid. The silver foil side labels feature the SUN diamond logo and are printed with the text: SURPRISE!! DON’T EAT ME GUARANTEED TO CONTAIN ONE PEARL OR MORE FROM THE FAMOUS A BEAUTIFUL PEARL IN THE ORIGINAL OYSTER ABOUT THREE YEARS OLD. MADE IN JAPAN. The top of each vessel retains a paper sticker with Japanese text, which includes a warning against human consumption and instructions for cleaning any discovered pearl with salt and water. These items are frequently associated with the Ago Bay region of Japan, which is renowned for its pearl jewellery industry. Dimensions: Each approximately 4.5cm height x 7.5cm diameter.
