Hand-crafted by monk Agathonikos in Greece, this modern Eastern Orthodox religious icon depicts the Virgin Hodegetria, featuring the Virgin Mary holding the Christ Child. The piece is constructed with a repoussé and chased .950 fineness silver riza or oklad with gilt highlights over a painted panel. The metalwork displays detailed foliate borders, symbolic medallions, and two winged cherubim in the upper corners. The icon is inscribed with Greek hagiographic identifiers including MP ΘY for Mother of God and IC XC for Jesus Christ, along with the title Η ΟΔΗΓΗΤΡΙΑ. A lower inscription references ΜΟΥΣΕΙΟΝ or Museum. The reverse bears a descriptive yellow label stating the item was produced in the Holy Mount tradition and is made of pure silver of 950 degrees. A red wax seal with a central cross and the word ΒΥΖΑΝΤΙΝΟ is also present. The icon is mounted in a modern black frame.
