A large Japanese porcelain charger decorated in the Imari palette using underglaze cobalt blue and overglaze iron-red, green, pink, and yellow enamels with gilded highlights. The asymmetrical composition features shaped reserves, with the main scene depicting two seated bijin in traditional dress, one reading a book and the other holding a scroll. Surrounding reserves contain seasonal flora including chrysanthemums, morning glories, irises, and maple leaves, interspersed with geometric diaper patterns and stylised cloud motifs. The reverse is decorated with three underglaze blue floral sprays and concentric blue rings. An impressed square seal mark is present on the base but is not clearly legible.
