This collection comprises a pair of Georgian style brass candlesticks, a pair of patinated metal vases, and a 19th-century mahogany storage box. The brass candlesticks are designed with baluster-turned stems and octagonal bases with clipped corners, manufactured using cast and turned techniques. Each base features a small circular aperture. The pair of baluster-form vases are finished with a dark bronze-effect patina and decorated with embossed scrolled heart and fan motifs. These items are attributed as Japanese Buddhist altar fittings, specifically candle stands known as shokudai. The underside of one vase base bears a handwritten price notation in pencil. The rectangular mahogany box is of joined construction with brass hinges and a central lock. The interior of the lid features a handwritten ink inscription identifying the original owner: Thomas Scott, Confectioner, Newcastle Lyne. This refers to the town of Newcastle-under-Lyme in Staffordshire.
